Amélie du Chalard Gallery celebrates the opening of Photon on May 15, a solo exhibition by Paris-based artist, craftsman, and designer Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert. Presenting works shaped through fire, breath, and gravity, Photon reflects his exploration of glass as cosmological material and vessel for light. On view through May 30.
Amélie du Chalard Gallery presents Photon, a solo exhibition by Paris-based artist, craftsman, and designer Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert, opening May 15. Bringing together a group of recent works, the exhibition continues Wintrebert’s exploration of glass as both a material and a carrier of light.
In 2018, after a significant breakthrough in his experiments with molten glass, Wintrebert began structuring his exhibitions as a sequence of chapters tracing a broader cosmological narrative. Photon follows Prologue: The Beginning, which introduced the fundamental elements; Chapter 1: Adèle, dedicated to the emergence of the first light; and Chapter 2: Terminal, centered on matter. Rather than functioning as another chapter, Photon is conceived as a passage—an interlude within the larger story—evoking the immense journey light travels across space before reaching the viewer.
Each work begins with the cive, or rondelle, a circular disc created by spinning molten glass. This form lies at the heart of the project: materially, it results from the movement of liquid glass shaped by fire, breath, and gravity; conceptually, it recalls the trajectory of photons and the cyclical forces that generate light. Through this process, glass becomes a medium where light is both captured and released.
Developed with his team of craftsmen, the exhibition includes works ranging from intimate pieces to more complex compositions. Combining glass with aluminium, wood, and paint, the works emphasize the interaction between materials—glass carrying and transmitting light, while other elements introduce structure, texture, and shadow.
Photon will be on view through May 30.
