For renowned 20th century décorateur-ensemblier Jean Royère, creating a “harmonious spectacle to enchant the eye, rejoice the heart and elevate the spirit” was his raison d’etre. A master of color as well as of form, Jean Royère embraced a wide spectrum of hues ranging from vibrant primaries and dusty jewel tones to quieter, pastel palettes often in unconventional combinations. A joyously unrestrained tableaux that reveals an unexpected harmony, the result of an instinctual yet meticulous vision.
This spring, Royère Gallery New York presents an exhibition celebrating Jean Royère’s exuberant use of color in a collection of iconic and newly released archival pieces that exemplify the creative freedom and joie de vivre that are the hallmarks of his whimsical yet elegant designs.
Referencing the palettes found in his realized interiors as well as gouache illustrations developed for projects around the world, the installation brings a fresh perspective to well-known works.
