The Haystack Lamp is a collage of a built structure and reductive process — a reflection of iterative design and a tribute to the cracks of light that enter our spaces. We believe the most honest objects are the ones that reveal their logic. Here, the joinery is the aesthetic, the material is the finish, and the light is the byproduct of structure. Rigid in form, soft in feeling.
Eight aluminum panels lock together without a single fastener, casting a quiet geometry across a room. The Haystack Lamp is an exploration of architectural reduction and the "cracks of light" that define a space. Originally conceived as a large-scale pavilion contest submission, the form was distilled through a year of iterative prototyping into an object that felt quietly complete.
Through thoughtful craftsmanship, we aim to make rigid forms softer, warmer, and ultimately precious. As both designers and athletes, Avery and William are united by a shared instinct for structure and grace. Our practice draws on a spatial awareness learned in and on the field. Our design process closely resembles a passing sequence on the pitch: instinctual, adaptive, trusting and balanced when each element moves in rhythm.
