Montera is a table lamp that celebrates the designer’s Spanish roots. Its silhouette echoes the iconic bullfighter’s hat, the montera, translating this traditional symbol into a contemporary design. Crafted from sand, the textured surface evokes the arena floor of the “plaza de toros”.
This lamp is made using a binder-jet 3D printing process, building the object directly from quartz sand as the primary material. Each piece is hand-finished to enhance the material's natural texture.
A soft glow is cast from two concealed light sources, bathing the sculptural form and its surroundings in a warm, atmospheric light. The textured sand reflects and fragments the illumination subtly, creating an interplay of light and shadow.
Rooted in tradition yet designed for contemporary living, Montera reinterprets a cultural reference, transforming it into a luminous object with sculptural presence. Its sand materiality acts as the connector between past and present, embodying both memory and innovation.
